چکیده

Introduction Cysts of the menisci, particularly of the lateral meniscus, are not uncommon, and most are easily diagnosed by the history and examination of the knee. The first clinical description was by Ebner in 1904. Amongst the case reports in the literature are those of Becton & Young (1965) who in a 20-year review found only twenty-eight cases. Bonnin in 1958 described twenty-nine cases to which he added a further twenty-one cases over an 8-year period. De Palma (1954) in a series of 507 knees found forty-eight with cystic degeneration, an incidence of 9%°, whilst Smillie (1970) in his massive series of meniscectomies, had 633 cases of cysts of the meniscus, an overall incidence of 8% In our series there were fifty cysts in 249 cases, an incidence of 20%.

Crash Injury Analysis of Knee Joint Considering Pedestrian Safety

Background: Lower extremity injuries are frequently observed in car-to-pedestrian accidents and due to the bumper height of most cars, knee joint is one of the most damaged body parts in car-to-pedestrian collisions. Objective: The aim of this paper is first to provide an accurate Finite Element model of the knee joint and second to investigate lower limb impact biomechanics in car-to-pede...

Ultrasound imaging for the rheumatologist IV. Ultrasonography of the knee.

Ultrasound examination of the knee is particularly useful in the detection of synovitis, early degenerative changes within the articular cartilage of the femoral condyles, calcifications within the articular cartilage layer and menisci, bursitis, and popliteal cysts. Also, important anatomical information about the structural integrity of the supporting tissues around the knee can be obtained b...

The Study of Menisci Effect on Tibio-femoral Kinematics in a Computational Knee Joint

The menisci are important knee structures that are often ignored in computational models of the knee. Previous work on this project has shown that representation of the menisci significantly reduces the contact forces and pressures on the articulating surfaces of the tibia and femur [1]. The purpose of this study was to examine the significance of the menisci on tibio-femoral kinematics. Improv...

Intra-articular ganglion cysts of the knee.

A ganglion is a cystic mass with myxoid matrix that occasionally occurs within muscles, tendons, and menisci. A ganglion cyst within the knee is very rare, with few reports to be found. We are reporting eight cases of a ganglion within the knee joint. Our cases include two ganglia in the infrapatellar fat pad which have not been previously reported. Ganglion cysts do not have specific symptoms....

A Morphometric Study of Menisci of Knee Joint in Human Cadavers

Original Article Menisci are the cartilaginous discs present in between femur and tibia in knee joint. These are prone to damage and as being weight bearing structures; they are commonly replaced once injured, by arthroscopic or open procedure. For such meniscus transplants, calculation of proper size of allograft is important as in knee joints with improper sized menisci, arthritis is common t...
